This product line of whole-slide scanners from Motic, a provider of digital pathology solutions based in Vancouver, Canada, recently received a Health Canada Class II Medical Device License.
According to the company, MoticEasyScan solutions are designed to address one of the largest remaining barriers to entry into the digital pathology workflow: cost of ownership. Digital pathology is widely acknowledged as an essential technology to improve patient care, reduce diagnosis time, and to support pathologists with flexible and easy access to the tools required to improve healthcare outcomes. However, stakeholders, hospitals, and their partners have struggled to accommodate what can be an overwhelming cost to implement a digital pathology solution.

Today’s shortage of pathology expertise around the globe is leaving many remote areas in vulnerable positions and constantly increasing the workload for active pathologists. With a digitized workflow, a pathologist can receive a patient’s slides within minutes instead of weeks. Frozen section samples can be read (and controlled) remotely in real-time, cutting arduous travel for the pathologist. Even global projects that were shut down due to recent travel restrictions can now safely continue on the cloud with digitally scanned biopsies.
