The software update adds more than 50 features, an automated AI orchestration hub, and a research-use foundation model for gastrointestinal screening.

Fujifilm Healthcare Americas Corp has launched Synapse Pathology v3.0, introducing more than 50 new features and functions designed to improve user navigation and expand artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across digital pathology workflows. The platform will be showcased at Pathology Visions 2026 in San Diego, California.

“Digital pathology is evolving rapidly, and our customers are looking for solutions that not only help improve the experience of working in a digital environment today, but also prepare them for the AI-driven workflows of tomorrow,” says Dr Mark Lloyd, vice president of digital pathology, Fujifilm Healthcare Americas Corp, in a release. “Synapse Pathology v3.0 represents a major step forward for our platform. We listened closely to our customers and translated their feedback into meaningful enhancements across navigation, measurement, classification and organization, while simultaneously creating new opportunities to bring AI directly into the pathology workflow.”

Workflow and Navigation Enhancements

The software update incorporates customer feedback to help pathologists navigate, evaluate, measure, classify, and organize digital pathology cases. Specific additions include Smart Worklist sorting, new navigation devices, slide tagging, new measurement tools, and updated collaboration features.

In addition to user interface adjustments, version 3.0 enhances Fujifilm’s proprietary algorithms, including TissueSync and TissueDirect. The release also simplifies integration with third-party AI software, including Ibex applications for malignancy detection in breast, prostate, and gastric specimens.

AI Orchestration and Foundation Model

Synapse Pathology v3.0 incorporates Synapse AI Orchestrator, an automated distribution hub built to connect the software platform with compatible third-party AI applications. The hub standardizes data exchange between systems, enabling clinical laboratories to incorporate specialized algorithms into digital workflows without requiring pathologists to toggle between disparate applications.

Fujifilm is also introducing Synapse Pathology AI Foundry, a large-scale pathology AI foundation model trained on millions of pathology images. Designated for research use only, the foundation model provides a centralized technical base intended to support multiple downstream applications rather than a single diagnostic function.

At Pathology Visions, Fujifilm is demonstrating the model’s use in screening gastrointestinal specimens to identify and differentiate normal, inflammatory, atypical, and malignant conditions.
