Microorganism manufacturer Microbiologics has released its first molecular product line to assist with the development, validation, and monitoring of molecular assays. Helix Elite includes 13 standards for microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Norovirus that are challenging or impossible to cultivate. According to Brian Beck, vice president of the Microbiologics Molecular Products and Services division responsible for launching the line, “the Helix Elite molecular standards are a safe alternative to using infectious materials that are otherwise hard to access.”
Produced through a bioinformatics algorithm that combines diagnostic sequences from the target organism, the standards may be used for internal or external positive controls in a defined reaction or spiked into matrices.
