Beckman Coulter Inc, Brea, Calif, and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, Raritan, NJ, have announced a strategic relationship regarding US sales of Ortho’s Vitros 3600 immunodiagnostic system and infectious disease menu.

Offering a broad menu of infectious disease tests, the Vitros 3600 unit combines three high-quality proprietary technologies into a single system that is self-monitoring, highly efficient, and easy to use.

As part of their strategic relationship, Beckman Coulter will place Ortho’s system running human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis assays in labs that currently run Beckman’s Power Processor sample handling systems, and in certain other very high volume laboratories.

“We look forward to working with the impressive team at Ortho to bring Ortho’s high-quality infectious disease testing to our customers,” says John Nosenzo, senior vice president of customer operations for developed markets at Beckman Coulter. “This relationship provides both immediate opportunity and long-term value as we continue to enhance efficiency, advance patient care, and broaden our customer offerings. Through this relationship, we will be able to apply innovative technologies to deliver enhanced solutions to the highest volume labs in the United States.”

Beckman Coulter’s Power Processor was developed to improve lab operations by enhancing productivity, operator safety, and accuracy, as well as significantly reducing opportunities for errors and cutting labor costs.

The partners’ new arrangement seeks to help very high volume laboratories access infectious disease testing, improve operational efficiency, and enhance patient care.

Our relationship with Beckman will help us deliver that expertise to their large installed base of automated labs,” says Alex Socarrás, executive vice president of global commercial operations at Ortho. “We are committed to forming key strategic collaborations such as this one, which enable us to stay focused on our core business while being nimble enough to meet the varied and changing needs of our valued customers.”

Beckman Coulter and Ortho will also partner to obtain FDA clearance or approval to connect the Vitros 3600 system to the Power Processor to run infectious disease tests.
