bioLytical Laboratories, BC, Canada, Virgin Mobile Canada, and UNICEF Canada have joined forces to create a public awareness and mobile testing campaign for HIV testing.

A presentation is planned for Nov 28, from 4 pm to 10 pm at the World AIDS Day Concert at Bell Centre, 1047 de la Montagne, in Montreal.

The Test your Commitment campaign features demonstrations of bioLytical’s Insti HIV-1 rapid antibody test, a Health Canada-approved diagnostic kit for point-of-care testing that delivers HIV results in 60 seconds.

The rapid in vitro qualitative test detects antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus type 1 in human whole blood, serum, or plasma. The screening assay is used in medical facilities, clinical laboratories, emergency care situations, and physicians’ offices.

The campaign provides a forum to discuss issues regarding HIV testing and the need to reduce the stigma of those living with HIV and AIDS.

Some 15,000 Canadians are said to be HIV positive, but unaware of their status.
