Verichem Laboratories, Providence, RI, has announced the availability of its liquid stable and ready-to-use HDL Cholesterol Verifier Kit intended for the calibration verification of both High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol assays. Accurate measurement and monitoring of HDL and LDL cholesterol levels are essential in the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. The kit is made to meet the needs of a wide variety of clinical laboratory professionals, including those involved in routine diagnostic testing, medical research applications, and in the manufacturing and support of in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) products.

Verichem’s HDL Cholesterol Verifier Kit contains HDL and LDL cholesterol and other lipid components from human serum that is free of surfactants, glycols, azide, and other potential interfering substances. The unique serum-like formulation also contains a critical blend of highly purified human serum albumin, human serum globulin, and bovine gamma globulin in saline. The use of such purified source components eliminates matrix variations, which are quite common with many other serum-based products, and results in exceptional lot-to-lot product reproducibility and consistencies. In addition, the material’s pH, matrix composition, and protein balance are kept constant for optimum linearity, even with the most sensitive methods.

Volumetric dilution of the highest and lowest concentrations provides a known linear relation among this multi-level testing kit, according to CLSI protocol. Both HDL and LDL cholesterol targets are determined via direct measurement using reference method certified calibration materials. The company says this matrix formulation and set point design represent the cutting edge in lipoprotein reference materials and allow for exceptional performance characteristics in the calibration verification for the vast majority of all “wet” direct and indirect HDL and LDL chemistry testing methodologies, including classic selective precipitation assays.

Every one of Verichem’s six-level HDL Cholesterol Verifier Kits is ergonomically packaged with 5.0 mL of material at each concentration level, which is enough to cover multiple uses and testing events and includes a value assignment sheet with target values assigned using various popular clinical methods. All materials are filled within easy-to-use, translucent polyethylene dropper vials and offer an exceptional shelf-life stability claim of 14 months from the date of manufacture when stored at temperatures of -15° to -25°C.  This iquid product can be frozen and thawed for up to 10 cycles without affecting concentration accuracy or test performance.
