BioTek, Winooski, Vt, has released the second edition of its BioSpa software, which controls all aspects of the company’s BioSpa 8 automated incubator. The incubator links BioTek readers or images together with washers and dispensers for full workflow automation of up to eight microplates. The device offers real-time control and continuous monitoring of temperature, CO2/O2, and humidity levels—along with lid handling and run notifications—to provide walkway confidence, while maintaining an ideal environment for cell cultures during all experimental stages. The software release is designed to provide maximum functionality for multiple users on the system, especially for imaging- or detection-only workflows. BioSpa software now offers two modes, each optimized for particular workflows. Session mode is ideal for imaging, detection, and liquid-handling operations with multiple steps. The new OnDemand mode offers a simplified interface for kinetic imaging or detection workflows. OnDemand mode allows users to add or remove labware at any time, without interrupting operations in process. Also, multiple users can be defined in the system; each user can visually track their own experiment’s progress on the dynamic timeline, and notifications can be emailed or texted to alleviate the need for constant monitoring.
