The AI companion analyzes up to five years of personal lab data within the company’s patient portal to explain test results and identify health trends.

Quest Diagnostics has introduced Quest AI Companion, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chat feature that helps patients analyze and understand their laboratory test results within the company’s MyQuest patient portal and mobile app.

The tool, available now to all adult users of the secure, HIPAA-compliant MyQuest platform, provides personalized explanations of test results without requiring patients to share their health data with public AI platforms. The AI companion can analyze up to five years of an individual’s Quest lab data to identify trends and patterns that may indicate health risks.

Patients often tell us they want help simplifying and understanding their test results and what the results communicate about their health,” says Nicole Antonson, vice president of digital solutions and interoperability at Quest Diagnostics, in a release. “Quest AI Companion builds on this history and empowers patients to analyze their results and spot trends they can discuss with their healthcare provider.”

Addressing Privacy Concerns in AI Health Tools

The tool operates entirely within Quest’s secure platform, addressing privacy concerns that may arise when patients use public AI technologies to analyze personal health information. According to a Quest survey, participants cited privacy and data security, alongside accuracy and reliability, as primary concerns about using AI for health data analysis.

“People want to understand their lab data, but not everyone feels comfortable uploading their health data to public AI platforms,” says Yuri Fesko, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Quest Diagnostics, in a release. “Quest AI Companion empowers people to access the benefits of gen AI from a healthcare services provider they already know and trust.”

The AI companion can define test names and medical terminology from results reports, translate the meaning of lab values such as high, low, or within reference range, and help users compose questions to ask their healthcare providers.

Google Cloud Partnership Powers AI Tool

Quest AI Companion is powered by Google’s Gemini family of models through a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud established in March 2025. The partnership integrates Google Cloud’s AI technologies to streamline data management and improve customer experiences, with plans for continued innovation to aid patients and providers.

The tool includes several disclaimers, noting it is intended for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice or healthcare provider visits. Users must be at least 18 years old, and the system should not be used for diagnosing disease or changing treatment courses without healthcare provider guidance.
