The Diatron Group, Budapest, Hungary, recently introduced its Aquila three-part differential hematology analyzer to the laboratory world at Medica 2015, in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Boasting throughput of 60 tests per hour, the compact analyzer requires a sample size of only 10µl, and consumes less than 10ml of reagent per test. It is equipped with an onboard reagent pack sufficient for approximately 200 measurements. Taken together, such low reagent consumption and the onboard reagent pack help to reduce the costs of frequent ordering and shipping of reagents. These key features also focus on reducing the analyzer’s footprint, making it suitable for small laboratories and point-of-care environments.

The analyzer includes a touchscreen, intuitive user interface, optional backup battery pack, and extended connectivity options. The system is expected to launch in early 2016. According to a spokesperson, the company hopes to submit the analyzer for FDA premarket review later this year.
