Following recent reports from the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has announced a decision to cancel the 2020 HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition. Instead, the organization is planning a special digital edition of the conference, with the goal of making all of the sessions and panels from HIMSS20 available online. “We recognize all the hard work that so many have put into preparing for their presentations and panels that accompany every HIMSS conference,” says Hal Wolf, president and CEO of HIMSS. “Based on evaluation of evolving circumstances and coordination with an external advisory panel of medical professionals to support evidence-based decisionmaking, it is clear that it would be an unacceptable risk to bring so many thousands of people together in Orlando next week.” Those already registered for HIMSS20 will have access to HIMSS20 Digital and will also be automatically registered for HIMSS21 in Las Vegas.
