Hamilton Infinity and Advantage Fume Hoods

Helps eliminate atmospheric pollution from exhaust
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, Mass, introduces its new lines of Thermo Scientific Hamilton Infinity and Advantage fume hoods. The new range of fume hoods incorporates unique directed air technology, which provides an airflow purge of the interior sidewall. The Hamilton Infinity series features GreenFumeHood® technology utilizing Neutrodine® filters in place of traditional carbon filters to eliminate atmospheric pollution from the exhaust, which helps to minimize building infrastructure and dramatically reduce energy-consumption costs. With low-voltage LED lighting, minimal exhaust static pressure, and variable air volume compatibility to minimize exhaust air when the sash is down, the hoods also provide energy-efficient hazard containment. A full-height slanted front viewing area and side viewing panels enable simple sample monitoring, while a flush sill enhances safety by eliminating possible glassware tripping hazards.

E8 Centrifuge

Tabletop centrifuge featuring variable speeds
The eight-place LW Scientific E8, from LW Scientific, Lawrenceville, Ga, is an economical tabletop centrifuge that can accommodate most test tubes from 3 to 15 mL, with proper separations without cell damage. A wide stance eliminates wobble, while suction-cupped feet prevent slipping. The brushless motor is virtually maintenance-free, and the lid port allows for speed calibration using a handheld tachometer. Choose from two different models: fixed speed for blood only; or variable speed for blood, urine, and other fluids that require slower speeds. Both models include an eight-place tube rotor, eight 15-mL tube sleeves, and eight 13- x 75-tube sleeve inserts.

Bioruptor Sonicator

Optimal for next-generation sequencing
Diagenode, Sparta, NJ, launches two new models of its Bioruptor® sonicator—the Bioruptor-UCD500, tailored for high-throughput labs, and the new digital UCD300, optimized for use in next-generation sequencing. The Bioruptor offers hands-free, programmable operation and parallel, multiple-sample processing. It uses standard plastic laboratory tubes ranging from 0.5- to 50-mL sizes, operates flexibly, and can shear up to 48 samples of DNA or chromatin simultaneously. The sonicator also uses a proprietary ultrasound mechanism that features both high reproducibility and double-stranded DNA content.

GLE-UVSC UV Sterilization Cabinet

Decontaminates reagents and equipment
The new GLE-UVSC UV sterilization cabinet, from Scie-Plas, Holliston, Mass, provides decontamination of reagents and equipment before carrying out sensitive PCR reactions, particularly when amplifying DNA sequences that are either in limited supply or of low copy number. Four timer-controlled 15-watt UV bulbs enable users to control the exposure time and dose of high-energy UV radiation required to denature nucleic acids that cause unwanted background contamination. A timer override switch allows the UV source to remain on indefinitely, if preferred. Safety interlocks switch off the bulbs automatically when the cabinet doors are opened, preventing accidental exposure to the UV source. Interior dimensions measure 21.2 x 15.7 x 29.5 inches. The cabinet now comes with standard universal power input.
