These protein quantitation kits, which are based on the absolute protein quantitation (AQUA™), represent a breakthrough in terms of specificity, accuracy, and sensitivity. The assay development time also is significantly shorter than other techniques.
The AQUA process consists of identifying a peptide as an internal standard and then measuring the native protein concentration directly from a complex sample. Best results are generated on triple quadruple mass spectrometers, such as those in Thermo’s Finnigan™ Quantum™ family. Once the absolute amount of native peptide is calculated, the absolute starting abundance of protein can be derived.
Four new Heavy Peptide™ kits are available from the company, including the AQUA demo kit, the AQUA custom kit for absolute protein quantitation, the AQUA discovery kit for technique setup, and a basic kit for relative quantitation.
