The US Navy research laboratory will evaluate ID-Tag Respiratory Viral Panel from Tm Bioscience Corp, Toronto, a proprietary, comprehensive test for the detection of the majority of strains and subtypes of respiratory viruses, including respiratory syncytial virus A and B, influenza A (with subtyping) and influenza B.

In collaboration with regional health authorities, the Navy research laboratory will use the test in South East Asia to conduct infectious disease surveillance activities to focus on detection of acute respiratory pathogens including avian influenza.

The ID-Tag RVP is designed to play a key role in patient management, infection control, and in countering the pandemic threat of respiratory diseases by giving results in less than six hours. The test has received CE mark certification and the company is focused on gaining regulatory clearance from the FDA for use as an in vitro device in the United States and is also working toward Health Canada approval.
