The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), Pittsburgh, has just opened a new, streamlined centralized lab building, which consolidated and relocated the central clinical laboratories and moved them into what had been a vacant nine-story research building on its Pittsburgh campus.

The hospital’s pneumatic tube system was extended and modernized to link the new clinical labs to the main hospital campus and Magee-Womens Hospital.
The 90-plus year old building—formerly a warehouse—presented structural challenges including extremely low floor heights, stair and elevators shared with an adjacent parking garage, limited floor loading capacity, and lack of street entry presence.
The renovation incorporates sustainable features and upgrades.
| Among the current openings are: ATL lab supervisor, lead histotechnican, medical technologists, histotechnicans, and medical lab techs. For more information, contact [email protected] |
