The surface-coated sample-preparation housing by Harvard Apparatus consists of a tube or column such as a pipette tip that has a chromatographic or separations material coated on the inside wall without obstructing the center channel or forming a plug. This revolutionary new tip concept eliminates all backpressure caused by frits, filters, or plugs so that an accurate amount can be drawn and delivered. Also, the lack of backpressure makes manual operation easy. The elimination of frits and meshes eliminates surfaces that could nonspecifically absorb proteins and other compounds. This new technology can be used for desalting; buffer exchanges; surfactant removal; and concentration of molecules, including proteins, DNA, RNA, cytochrome c, albumin, and more. Harvard Apparatus is selling pipette tips based on this technology under the commercial name of PrepTip™. The first support material available is based on C18; silica with other supports will be available soon.
