The award recognizes Joel Braunstein after the agency cleared the first Alzheimer’s blood test for adults with cognitive symptoms as young as 40.
The Nimoy-Knight Foundation has selected Joel Braunstein, MD, CEO and co-founder of C2N Diagnostics, to receive its Live Long & Prosper Tribute Award. The recognition comes after C2N announced in late August that the US Food and Drug Administration cleared its PrecivityAD2 test, which the company reports is the first Alzheimer’s disease blood test cleared for adults with cognitive symptoms as young as 40 years old.
The foundation, created to celebrate the legacy of “Star Trek” actor Leonard Nimoy, presents the tribute award to individuals and organizations that reflect Nimoy’s message of hope, logic, and service to others.

Braunstein noted in the release that Nimoy focused on raising awareness about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease before his death, emphasizing that early detection changes patient lives. “Every day, our team at C2N Diagnostics carries that principle forward in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease,” says Braunstein, CEO and co-founder of C2N Diagnostics, in a release. “We are working to ensure that patients with memory concerns and their families have access to earlier, more accurate diagnosis when it matters most.”
Mass Spectrometry Diagnostic Pipeline
C2N Diagnostics specializes in clinical laboratory services and diagnostic solutions for brain health, utilizing high-resolution mass spectrometry-based biomarker assays, according to the company. The company states that its assays have been used in more than 200 clinical research studies worldwide, including trials assessing disease-modifying therapies for neurodegeneration.
According to the release, more than 90,000 Precivity-related biomarker measurements have been published in peer-reviewed scientific literature. The specialty diagnostics company also maintains research and laboratory distribution agreements with diagnostic networks and institutions, including Grupo Fleury, Healius, Mediford, and Mayo Clinic Laboratories, according to C2N.
Braunstein received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed internal medicine training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School, according to the announcement. He completed a cardiovascular medicine fellowship and served as a Robert Wood Johnson National Clinical Scholar at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, where he also earned an MBA and held an assistant professorship in cardiology, according to the company release.
