The multi-year agreement focuses on decentralized testing for solid tumors and hematological oncology applications.


SOPHiA GENETICS and AstraZeneca have entered a multi-year collaboration to develop, validate, and deploy two companion diagnostic programs supporting precision oncology therapies.

The agreement aims to bring decentralized clinical trial assays and companion diagnostic capabilities to AstraZeneca therapies, according to a press release from SOPHiA GENETICS. As part of the partnership, SOPHiA GENETICS will develop its Solid Tumor application into a decentralized companion diagnostic and validate its Hematological Oncology application to support a program for patients with blood cancer.

We are moving towards a future that no longer depends on geography, where any laboratory can run the same test to the same high standard on day one of a launch. Expanding Local Laboratory Capabilities

The collaboration utilizes a cloud-based platform designed to allow healthcare institutions to perform validated, artificial intelligence-powered analysis locally. This decentralized approach is intended to enable companion diagnostics to be available in local laboratories on the first day of a drug approval, according to the company.

By combining biomarker detection with rapid deployment, the companies aim to shorten the time between the release of a new therapy and patient access. The program utilizes insights generated from patient populations across a global network of more than 1,000 connected institutions to inform clinical decision-making.

The vision for the programs involves connected, data-driven medicine to expand access to innovative treatments, according to the press release. The technology-agnostic platform allows institutions to share and benefit from collective intelligence across more than 75 countries while maintaining local testing standards.
