Leica Biosystems, Vista, Calif, has integrated its Cerebro sample tracking system with the WindoPath and NucleoLIS laboratory information systems (LISs) by Psyche Systems, Milford, Mass. The collaboration seeks to increase the efficiency and quality of pathology lab services by reducing the number of clicks and data entry steps required of users, in order to minimize the chance of errors and improve patient safety.

“Cerebro enables laboratories to track each sample through every step of the process. It measures and monitors performance metrics,” says Puneet Sarin, vice president and general manager of Leica Biosystems’ pathology imaging business. “More importantly, it is the first step in the digital journey that becomes increasingly imperative as labs get more sophisticated and outfit new digital pathology solutions. This integration of Cerebro with Psyche’s products will help laboratories achieve significant improvements in patient safety, laboratory productivity, and analytics.”
