The Mirage Connect and Cube Connect readers feature integrated networking capabilities and passive cryoprotection for frozen sample processing.
Azenta Life Sciences has launched two new camera-based tube readers designed to enhance laboratory workflows through networked connectivity and cold-chain sample processing capabilities.
The Mirage Connect and Cube Connect readers, part of Azenta’s Ziath brand portfolio, are powered by DataPaq DP5 V2.0 software and feature integrated networking capabilities that allow seamless operation via RJ45 connection without requiring traditional DC power supplies.
The Mirage Connect reader features a low profile and small footprint designed for use with robotic platforms and frozen samples. The unit includes a 16-megapixel camera, standard acoustic templates, and integrated Cyclops barcode activation. It supports HTTP(S) REST API and mobile app control, and is the camera-based reader on the market to feature fully integrated networking capabilities, according to the company.
Both readers include passive cryoprotection to reduce fogging and condensation when reading frozen samples, helping minimize the time samples are exposed to ambient conditions during reads.
The Cube Connect reader is designed for large-format racks including 14×14, 81-position, and 100-position cryo boxes. The unit features two 12-megapixel cameras and connects via USB-C or RJ45, eliminating the need for dedicated power adapters. It includes a more compact footprint and metal casing compared to its predecessor.
Software Integration and Compatibility
Both readers operate on the new DP5 V2.0 software, which enables compatibility with multiple rack formats including 24, 48, 96, 240, and high-density configurations. The software includes REST API support and mobile app connectivity for integration into automated systems and laboratory informatics platforms.
“With Mirage Connect and Cube Connect, we are responding to the growing demand for network-ready, cryo-compatible tube readers that support scalable and integrated laboratory environments,” says Alexis MacLeod, global product manager, in a release. “These products not only replace multiple existing readers but also future-proof labs for the increasing push towards automation and remote operability.”
The readers are designed to support both standalone use and networked laboratory environments, with integrated Cyclops barcode reading and compatibility with a wide range of rack templates.
Trade-Up Program Available
To support the product launch, Azenta is offering a limited-time trade-up program that provides preferred pricing to customers upgrading from older reader models. The program is designed to support the transition to more advanced, connected, and cryo-capable workflows.
Azenta provides life sciences solutions including cold-chain sample management and multiomics services for pharmaceutical, biotech, academic, and healthcare institutions. The company operates through brands including GENEWIZ, FluidX, Ziath, 4titude, Limfinity, Freezer Pro, Barkey, and B Medical Systems.
