Performance and Diagnostics Insights platform provides comparative analytics to help labs optimize operations and improve patient care.
The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) has launched Performance and Diagnostics Insights (PDI), a platform designed to help healthcare organizations use clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory data to assess performance and identify improvement areas.
PDI provides laboratories and health systems with benchmarking and quality performance insights, enabling them to measure, compare, and optimize laboratory operations, test utilization, and test quality. The platform offers access to aggregated and comparative analytics to equip pathologists, laboratory professionals, and healthcare leaders with actionable intelligence for clinical decision-making.
“The laboratory influences nearly every patient diagnosis and treatment decision,” says Alexandra Brown, MD, FASCP, interim chief executive officer of ASCP, in a release. “PDI equips healthcare organizations with the tools to turn laboratory metrics into meaningful insights that improve patient outcomes and set new standards for quality across pathology and laboratory medicine, and healthcare overall.”
Addressing Scaling Challenges
The platform addresses scaling benchmarking and quality measurement across diverse institutions by introducing solutions for data ingestion, change, and analysis. PDI allows new laboratories to onboard and contribute to a network of shared insights while integrating with existing Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) to capture real-time data.
Built on a HIPAA-compliant infrastructure, PDI incorporates advanced security protocols to protect patient data and ensure regulatory compliance.
“Laboratories are under unprecedented pressure to do more with fewer resources, while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and compliance,” says Sachin Gupta, PhD, MBA, MLS(ASCPi)MBi, LSSBB, CPHQ, scientific director of the Center for Quality and Patient Safety of ASCP, in a release. “This platform gives leaders the data-driven visibility they need to optimize operations, improve efficiency, turnaround times, and demonstrate value within their health systems and to patients.”
Platform Capabilities
According to ASCP, laboratories using PDI can access benchmarking capabilities and quality performance insights to optimize their operations. The platform enables performance measurement and comparison across laboratory functions while providing analytics to support operational improvements.
“PDI will fundamentally change how organizations think about their laboratory’s value,” says Brown, in a release. “It’s not just about collecting data—it’s about turning data into knowledge that drives better care for patients.”
Performance and Diagnostics Insights is now available to healthcare organizations nationwide. Founded in 1922, ASCP is a medical professional society with more than 100,000 members, including board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologists, pathology residents and fellows, laboratory professionals, and students.
