The expanded range of dye label kits provides more flexibility for panel design in immunological research.

Bio-Rad Laboratories has expanded its TrailBlazer StarBright Dye Label Kits, which provide a method for conjugating antibodies to fluorophores. The full range of 32 kits is now commercially available in Europe for use in flow cytometry and fluorescent western blot experiments, according to the company.

The TrailBlazer StarBright Dye Label Kits use SpyTag and SpyCatcher technology to conjugate a StarBright Dye to a chosen antibody. This process results in stable conjugated antibodies for use in downstream applications. The expanded range includes 32 different kits, which allow for panel design and data generation in applications where commercially available antibody-fluorophore combinations are limited.

“The expansion of our TrailBlazer StarBright Dye Label Kit portfolio, now totaling 32 kits, offers our customers a more flexible solution for panel design, providing all the benefits of StarBright Dyes for any antibody of choice,” says Hilary Mavor, marketing director, life science group, Bio-Rad, in a release.

The kits provide access to StarBright ultraviolet, violet, blue, yellow, and red dyes. These fluorescent nanoparticles offer brightness with narrow excitation and emission profiles for precise resolution. They are compatible with most experimental protocols and flow cytometers, including the Bio-Rad ZE5 Cell Analyzer, without the need for special buffers.

According to the company, the dyes are resistant to photobleaching and show no loss of signal during fixation. Minimal lot-to-lot variation also helps ensure reproducible and consistent staining.

For fluorescent western blots, the StarBright Blue 700 and StarBright Blue 520 kits are designed to work with the ChemiDoc MP and ChemiDoc Go Imagers. These kits are labeled to anti-mouse and anti-rabbit secondary antibodies, which facilitates sensitive detection with short exposure times.

“By offering broad antibody compatibility and long-term stability, the additional TrailBlazer StarBright Dye Label Kits will enable generation of consistent and high-quality conjugated antibodies for flow cytometry and fluorescent western blot applications,” says Mavor in a release.
