Through its annual Siemens-ASCP Scholarship Program, The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Chicago, and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Deerfield, Ill, will award more than $125,000 in scholarships this year.

Each year, ASCP and Siemens award scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in medical laboratory science to defray education costs, promote the profession, and address the laboratory workforce shortage. Last year, ASCP and Siemens awarded $178,500 in scholarships. Applications for awards are now being accepted at www.ascp.org/scholarships. The deadline to apply is November 15.

Under the Siemens-ASCP Scholarship Program, applicants can apply for four different types of scholarships:

  • Students in their final year of study in an approved CG, CT, HT, HTL, MB, MLT/CLT or MLS/MT/CLS, or PA program can apply for $1,000 scholarships;
  • Legacy Scholarship awards $2,000 to 10 students who are related to a certified MT/CLS/MLS and currently enrolled in their final year of laboratory science studies;
  • Graduate Scholarship awards $1,000 to five students pursuing a graduate degree in laboratory science;
  • Phlebotomy Scholarship awards $500 to students enrolled in or recent graduates of an approved phlebotomy program.

Last year, ASCP received more than 450 applicants–nearly double that of the previous year. More than $1.4 million in scholarships have been awarded to students since the scholarship program launched in 2003.
