Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Releases VITROS d%A1c Assay
The VITROS Chemistry Products d%A1c Reagent, for sale on Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics’ VITROS 5, 1 FS Chemistry System, is used in the management of patients with diabetes. It represents an enhancement of the previously available VITROS %A1c assay.

The new assay is fully automated, eliminating manual sample preparation and thus expediting test reporting. With its high specificity, it can be used in patient samples with the most common hemoglobin variants (S, C, F, and E). The VITROS d%A1c assay is National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program certified and traceable to the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Diabetes Control and Complications Trial reference methods.

Bio-Rad Launches D-10 Rack Loader
The D-10 Rack Loader and the system’s new software from Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc allow the laboratory professional to load more samples as they are available without interrupting a run, review samples with an improved chromatogram layout, and print results through a network computer. Chromatograms are easy to read with all peaks labeled and calibrated peaks shaded for easy identification. The D-10 Rack Loader is designed to bring more testing capacity and simplified operation to the laboratory without adding more work.

The D-10 Rack Loader expands the capacity of the D-10 platform from 10 to 50 whole blood samples. It streamlines laboratory workflow, simplifies system operation, and is available as an upgrade to an existing system to add more capacity when needed.

Glucose-Monitoring System Measures and Corrects Hematocrit and Electrochemical Interferences
An advanced blood glucose monitoring system from Nova Biomedical elevates bedside glucose testing to a new level of analytical performance. The Nova StatStrip™ point-of-care glucose monitor, designed to approach the quality of central laboratory testing, incorporates a patented new strip technology that uses four measuring wells. Current glucose strips use only one well. Nova’s Multi-Well™ system measures and corrects hematocrit interference as well as interferences from acetaminophen, uric acid, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), maltose, galactose, xylose, and lactose. StatStrip also eliminates oxygen interference to provide accurate glucose results regardless of the sample’s oxygen status.

StatStrip’s 6-second analysis time, color touch-screen operation, and simple operating steps make bedside glucose testing fast and easy for point-of-care staff. Its small 1.2-µL sample size results in easy sample acquisition and minimal pain for the patient. StatStrip requires no calibration codes, thereby eliminating an operator step and preventing a potential input error.

Comprehensive instrument-manager software provides management, control, and regulatory compliance, and allows the StatStrip system to be completely customized to the needs of each department within the hospital.
