C-kit, a proto-oncogene encoding a 145kDa receptor tyrosine kinase for stem cell factor, affects hematopoiesis, melanogenesis and gametogenesis.
Mutations in c-kit have been reported in a significant number of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors, the most common mesenchymal tumor of the GI tract. Antibodies against the c-kit oncoprotein are helpful in rectifying the histopathological differential diagnosis between GISTs and less common mesenchymal tumors, true gastrointestinal smooth muscle neoplasms and schwannomas.
This polyclonal antibody to CD117 reacts with human tissues and can be used for Western blotting IHC applications. It is supplied purified at 4mg/ml and can be used at a dilution of 1:400 to 1:800 for IHC staining of routine formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues. It is also available in a prediluted format, ready-to-use for IHC staining.
