The Cryptococcal Antigen Latex Agglutination System (CALAS) is a qualitative and semi-quantitative test system for the detection of capsular polysaccharide antigens of Cryptococcus neoformans in serum and cerebrospinal fluid.
Pretreatment of serum specimens with pronase prior to utilization of the CALAS kit reduces non-specific interference and enhances the antigen detection. CALAS is proven to be superior in sensitivity to the India Ink mount.
