photo Premier Cryptococcal Antigen (EIA) is a monoclonal EIA that provides results within 30 minutes without the need for specimen dilutions or pretreatments. It has a sensitivity of 100 percent and a specificity of 98 percent.
This product can be more sensitive than traditional latex by detecting lower concentrations of antigen at early or later stages of disease. The kit contains enough ready-to-use reagents for 192 determinations.
Cryptococcosis is typically initiated as a subclinical pulmonary infection caused by the encapsulated soil yeast, Cryptococcus neoformans. Although C. neoformans can infect any organ, the most serious complications occur when the organism invades the central nervous system of an immuno-compromised patient.
Detection of Cryptococcal antigen in serum or cerebrospinal fluid is used in the diagnosis of meningitis associated with infection by C. neoformans. Determining the relative changes in antigen levels has prognostic value and is used to monitor the efficacy of drug therapy.
