BCM O157:H7(+) is a culture medium designed for the selection and presumptive identification of the Escherichia coli O157:H7 pathogen. This system allows E. coli O157:H7 to grow while inhibiting the growth of a range of other enterics. It uses chromogenic substrates, biochemical indicators, a selective carbohydrate fermentation scheme and an inhibitory system that can recognize positive reactions for the E. coli O157:H7 strain.
With this medium, presumptive positive E. coli O157:H7 colonies appear blue-black with a black precipitate. Plates are prepared using the powdered media, which has a two-year shelf life. Prepared plates have a 60-day stability.
