photoThe MTS-Reader SA automated gel card reader, which extends this company’s automation strategy for its transfusion service customers, has received FDA clearance.
The reader centrifuges and reads gel cards without the need for operator intervention.
The company’s blood bank automation products center around the ID-Micro Typing System Gel Test, which provides a platform for automation and requires no wash steps or multiple reagent additions. The Tecan MegaFlex-ID automates sample preparation for the gel cards, and the MTS-Reader M automates the reading of cards.
The MTS-Reader SA can centrifuge and read 24 cards. It works with automated Tecan Mega Flex-ID systems and manual gel card stations. Its barcode scanner provides positive patient ID and can streamline reporting when interfaced to an LIS. Interpretations are operator validated before forwarding.
The MTS-Reader M, which reads gel cards but does not centrifuge them, was FDA cleared in 2000. Both readers feature Windows-based software. This company markets the ID-MTS Gel Test, MTS-Readers and other blood banking products on behalf of Micro Typing Systems Inc.
