CL-150 Series Workstations

Viewing cabinets for gel analysis

Spectronics Corp, Westbury, NY, introduces its Spectroline CL-150 Series of workstations. Consisting of the CL-150 and CL-151, the workstations enable lab techs to view, analyze, and photograph fluorescent samples with both epi-illumination and trans-illumination light sources. A removable bottom panel allows either unit to be placed directly over the transilluminator. The 25-watt white light bulb in the cabinet provides visible illumination for easy sample preparation. Researchers can utilize the safety-viewing eyepiece or substitute a snap-on camera adapter for photography. The cabinet can accommodate large electrophoresis gels and up to four 8- x 8-inch (20- x 20-cm) TLC plates. It can be used with any of the company’s X- and XX-series 15-watt UV lamps.

Purair 20

Isolated design prevents contamination

The Purair 20 ductless fume hood, from Air Science USA, Fort Myers, Fla, provides users with protection when using hazardous substances. A face velocity at 100 feet per minute ensures containment of fumes, and an alarm alerts the operator when the airflow falls to an unacceptable level. To help prevent contamination, all mechanisms in the head section of the fume hood are on the clean side of the filter. Switches and electrical components are totally isolated from the dirty airflow and away from any contamination. Optional integral lighting is also available. The fume hood measures 49 x 27.5 x 47.5 inches. Additional sizes are available up to 96 inches wide.

Midi 40 CO2 Incubator

Compact and stackable

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Milford, Mass, introduces a new smaller-capacity Thermo Scientific Midi 40 CO2 incubator featuring a space-saving footprint. The incubator is ideal for researchers who require separate, undisturbed incubation conditions due to the contamination risk associated with shared incubators or lack of available space. Additional benefits include reduced energy and gas consumption, as well as lower heat output. The unit also incorporates a noncorrosive stainless steel chamber, with 1.4 cubic feet (40 liters) of culture space, and a heated humidity pan to generate relative humidity values of up to 95%. Easily stackable, the incubator is supplied with RS485 signal output for convenient data capture, and it includes an adjustable audible and visual alarm.
