Radiometer has released an app for use in laboratory medicine. With it, creators hope to decrease pre-analytical errors.
One key feature of this app is the handbook section. It contains videos showing how to properly collect a blood gas sample by arterial puncture, through an arterial line, or by capillary sampling. It also describes several types of errors that can occur during and after sampling and gives tips on how to avoid such preanalytical errors. A troubleshooting section on the app helps identify factors that might have led to exceptionally high or low values of a given parameter. A skill test section on the app lets users find areas they might want to brush up on. The recommendations provided by the app are based on existing literature and international best practices.
