Olympus has named Hidenao Tsuchiya as VP and general manager of the scientific equipment group in the Americas, effective April 25. Tsuchiya reports directly to Shin Nishigaki, president of the life science and industrial systems group for Olympus Corp in Japan. In this position, Tsuchiya replaces Osamu Joji, who has served as the group VP and general manager for the last five years and will return to Japan to assume another position with Olympus Corp.

Tsuchiya was most recently the division manager for the life science business division of the life science and industrial systems group of Olympus Corp. A 28-year veteran of Olympus, Tsuchiya worked on a previous assignment in the US with the scientific equipment group from 1986 to 1991. He began his career as a precision mechanical engineer in 1983, and has since held several positions within Olympus, including division manager of the life science business.

"It is with great honor that I assume the position of group VP and general manager for our scientific equipment group in the Americas," said Tsuchiya. "This new structure will provide enhanced visibility for the scientific equipment business globally and enable us to develop appropriate strategies that best fit our business and address customer needs for the next five to 10 years. I look forward to leading both the life science and industrial microscopy businesses in the Americas, and am excited about our opportunities in the coming years."
