An article on WebMD states that, following a study of more than 9,000 people with multiple sclerosis (MS), there are now 57 genes linked to the disease. The original study is published in Nature.

“The new research confirms 23 genes that were suspected to be linked with MS and adds another 34,” says the article. The study also argues that there is evidence that MS begins with an “abnormal response of the body’s immune system.”
