Swift Western Blotting Systems

Complete blot development in less than 1 hour

The Swift™ western blotting system, from G-Biosciences, St Louis, reduces the blocking and antibody incubations on Western blot membranes from greater than 4 hours to less than 1 hour. Using a combination of proprietary wash, dilution buffers, and the company’s highly sensitive femtoLUCENT™ chemiluminescence detection reagent, the system generates comparable results to traditional Western blotting procedures. It is designed for use with any combination of primary and secondary antibodies, and the system is compatible with wet and semidry transfer systems and with all automated transfer systems on the market. Suitable for eight blots.

Isolera UV-VIS Flash Purification System

Broad wavelength detection flash system

Biotage, Uppsala, Sweden, introduces the Isolera™ UV-VIS flash purification system, enabling detection of organic molecules with spectral absorbance between 200 nm and 800 nm. The system provides detection capable to near IR range. Applications for the UV-VIS system include natural products (carotenoids, flavanoids, proanthocyanidins, etc), synthetic dyes, diagnostic dyes, and OLED chemicals. The new system incorporates technology that reduces solvent use up to 60% by converting linear gradients to optimized step-gradients. Additionally, the quatro-binary gradient capability enables use of up to four solvents in a single binary gradient to improve the separation of complex samples. With the patented TLC-to-Gradient capability, the system simplifies method transfer from TLC. The system is also optimized for use with universal fit, SNAP flash purification cartridges.

Elecsys Anti-HCV Assay

Used with Roche’s ECL technology

Roche, Indianapolis, introduces the Elecsys Anti-HCV assay—an in vitro diagnostic test for the qualitative detection of total antibodies to hepatitis C virus in human serum or plasma. The anti-HCV assay is an 18-minute test designed for use with Roche’s electrochemiluminescence technology. Assay results, in conjunction with other laboratory results and clinical information, may be used to aid in the presumptive diagnosis of HCV infection in persons with signs and symptoms of hepatitis and in persons at risk for hepatitis C infection. The test does not determine the state of infection or associated disease.

BioLite

Cost-effective cell culture products

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc, Milford, Mass, introduces Thermo Scientific BioLite products for general cell culture applications. Manufactured from a US Pharmacopeia class VI polystyrene resin, BioLite products are sterile and nonpyrogenic, making the culture surfaces suitable for many standard cell lines. The portfolio includes 35- to 150-mm diameter dishes, multidishes with 6, 12, 24, 48, or 96 wells, and flasks with surface areas of up to 175 cm2. The products also feature a cell culture surface for cell attachment and growth. Tests have shown the BioLite products comparable to other economically priced brands of cell culture products, and able to double time and cell morphology for both HEK and VERO cells.
