The Los Angeles Times reports that chemistry professor Patrick Harran of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), has been ordered  to stand trial on felony charges arising from a laboratory fire that killed staff research assistant Sheharbano “Sheri” Sangji more than 4 years ago.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied a motion from Harran’s attorney to dismiss the case, which the Times says, is believed to be the first such prosecution involving a US academic lab accident.
