Micronic Novitain Capping SolutionPost-Analytical Capping System
Facilitates sample collection tube sealing
Micronic, Lelystad, The Netherlands, has launched the Novitain post-analytical capping system for the secure sealing of sample collection tubes after analytical tests have been conducted. The system includes the Capcluster-50, 50-well format storage rack, and the manual capper CV750. Novitain TPE push caps are suited for secure short-term sealing of 13 mm diameter sample collection tubes stored in a 50-well format. The Novitain Capcluster-50 retaining foil can be removed to leave each tube individually capped, in turn minimizing cross contamination.

Adam Equipment PMB Moisture AnalyzersMoisture Analyzer
Supports fast sample drying
Adam Equipment, Oxford, Conn, has expanded its PMB line of moisture analyzers with the new PMB 163, which offers a capacity of 160g and readability of 0.01% / 0.001g. The unit’s automatic test-setting function enables easy recall for frequent testing of the same items without additional user programming. USB and RS-232 interfaces provide speedy connectivity, while a second USB port allows storage of test programs and data on a flash drive. The analyzers are self-contained, needing neither additional software nor a network connection for readings. Users can collect data on a production floor or anywhere power is available.

Bio-Rad Serum IndicesSerum Indices
Carry 14-day open-vial stability
Specimen interferences are a contributor to preanalytical variation that affects clinical chemistry testing. Liquichek serum indices from Bio-Rad Laboratories, Hercules, Calif, monitor an instrument’s ability to detect such interferences caused by hemolyzed, icteric, and lipemic specimens. The four-level kit includes hemolysis, icterus, lipemia, and noninterfered indices, with a 4 ml fill size for each level. The liquid, human serum-based product has a 14-day open-vial stability when stored at 2°C to 8°C, and a 3-year shelf life when stored at –70°C to –20°C. The product is not intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease.

Tecan 10ul LiHA tipsDisposable Pipette Tips
Support genomic applications
Tecan Group, Männedorf, Switzerland, has launched a new generation of 10 ?l disposable liquid handling tips to improve labware access on Fluent and Freedom EVO workstations, and to offer more options for on-deck tip storage. The redesigned, 10 ?l tips are 3.6 mm longer and have been developed to improve access to polymerase chain reaction plates and common 384-well microplate formats, helping to minimize dead volumes and waste of samples and reagents. The tips are suited for genomic and other applications requiring high throughput and accurate low-volume pipetting.

Key Scientific COLI.IDE. Coli Test
Aids in identification of MUG
Key Scientific Products, Stamford, Tex, has introduced the Coli.ID test kit, which aids in the rapid identification of Escherichia coli from positive urine cultures. The kit may also be used as part of a scheme to help in identifying such microorganisms as 4-methylumbelliferyl-beta-D-glucuronide (MUG), purrolidonyl arylamidase (PYR), and Indole production from clinical isolates. Multiple samples may be run on a single disc, and reagents are included with each kit. The test requires a pure 24–48-hour culture of the organism on a nonfluorescing, tryptophan-containing medium such as tryptone soya agar or blood agar.

Luminex ARIES_M1_RightMolecular Diagnostic System
Designed for low-throughput labs
Luminex Corp, Austin, Tex, has received FDA clearance and CE marking for a new in vitro diagnostic system, the Aries M1 system. Designed for low-throughput clinical labs, the Aries M1 system is a fully integrated, sample-to-answer platform for performing real-time polymerase chain reaction assays. The system extracts, amplifies, and detects nucleic acid targets from a variety of sample types. Once the cassettes are loaded onto the instrument, results are generated without additional technical intervention. The system can process up to six different samples, and one to six assays, at a time.
