InnerSpace Corp, Lincoln, Neb, offers the intelligent locking system (ILS) for its 7000 series Harmony supply and procedure cart system. The ILS is a keyless entry system that wirelessly links carts to a central computer, enhancing security and simplifying management across fleets of supply and procedure carts. The system enables cart access programming and full management of user information and cart settings from a single ILS-integrated computer. A single interface assigns users to specific carts and defines access parameters, including the days and times when those users can securely access contents of the specified carts. The ILS provides such alerts as unauthorized entry and low battery status, and delivers audit trail reporting of the last 15,000 access attempts. The system is available on all new 7000 series Harmony carts and can be added as an upgrade to existing 7000 series fleets.

Handheld Indoor Air Quality Monitor
Real-time data analysis
The AQ Pro by E Instruments, Langhorne, Pa, facilitates indoor air quality monitoring and real-time data analysis for hospitals and labs. The compact, handheld device includes multiple parameters, allowing users to customize up to three gas sensors at one time. The standard model includes CO2, temperature, relative humidity, barometric air pressure, and differential pressure, and is upgradeable to add volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, O2, NO2, SO2, and H2S. Jadak, Syracuse, NY, has introduced the XE-80P, a portable, battery-powered thermal printer and chart recorder. The device features a charge-on-demand feature that permits users to choose when the printer will charge, preserving power for the host device’s functions during a critical event. The printer requires a single USB cable for charging and communicating with other devices. Requiring minimal power to operate, the unit is outfitted with a long-lasting battery that will generally outlast the host device. Optional Bluetooth connectivity is available. The product represents the first printer the company has launched for original equipment manufacturers since General Scanning Printer Technologies, Bedford, Mass, became part of Jadak in June 2015.

Modular Embedding System
Designed for histopathology applications
The HistoCore Arcadia from Leica Biosystems Inc, Buffalo Grove, Ill, is a modular embedding system designed to streamline workflow in histopathology laboratories. Consisting of the paraffin-dispensing module Arcadia H and the cold plate Arcadia C, the system offers simple operation and precise control to help improve the quality, reliability, and speed of embedding work. The new station incorporates wrist-pads to increase comfort and stability, an optional magnifier to facilitate specimen orientation of small and complex biopsies, and a liquid crystal touchscreen for increased control. The large workspace of the Arcadia H enables the user to set out multiple cassettes and molds, and its paraffin tank holds up to 4 L of paraffin. The temperature of the different compartments and surfaces of the instrument can be adjusted individually.

Purair 5 ductless fume hoods from Air Science USA, Fort Myers, Fla, are designed to support a high level of operator protection during routine applications. The unit’s ductless design eliminates installation costs and enables positioning over a sink or benchtop apparatus. Three available models offer a choice of 24-inch, 36-inch, or 48-inch widths. The units operate at low noise levels, and because they recirculate, they do not exhaust expensive conditioned or heated air into the atmosphere. A face velocity of 100fpm ensures containment of fumes and particulates for operator protection. An alarm alerts the operator when the airflow falls to an unacceptable level, and an optional polypropylene spillage tray can be provided when required. The main filter can be chosen from 14 different types of carbon, which include specialty media for vapors of acids, formaldehyde, organics, mercury, and solvents.

Hepatitis B is a liver illness caused by the hepatitis B virus. Although a vaccine has been available since 1982, it is estimated that a third of the world’s population has been infected during their lifetime. This infectious disease is still common today in China. Antibody specificities include surface antigen (HBsAg), HB core, HB³e², HB-X, pre-S1, and pre-S2. Applications for these reagents include enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, immunohistochemistry, rapid, and western blotting tests.

Greiner Bio-One International GmbH, Frickenhausen, Germany, has unveiled the CellView slide, which features a glass bottom that has both a tissue culture-treated surface for simple applications, and an advanced tissue culture-treated surface for such complex experiments as multiplexed immunological staining or live cell analysis of sensitive cells. The new glass coating technology is designed to create a plastic-like surface on which cell cultures can grow. The 175-µm-thick borosilicate cover glass is embedded in a transparent plastic slide equipped with a detachable black polystyrene housing. The housing divides the slide into 10 round compartments, each of which has the dimensions of a well on a standard 96-well microplate.

Cystatin C Assay
Measuring range of 0.4 to 8.0 mg/L
Beckman Coulter Diagnostics, Brea, Calif, has released a cystatin C assay for the company’s AU family of low- to ultra-high-volume clinical chemistry systems and Immage 800 immunochemistry systems. The assay is an in vitro diagnostic test for quantitative determination of cystatin C in human serum and plasma. Measurement of cystatin C is used in the diagnosis and treatment of renal diseases, and simplifies patient testing by not being as susceptible as other renal function tests to diet, gender, muscle mass, or age. For added convenience, the assay is offered in a barcoded, liquid, ready-to-use format for the clinical chemistry systems. The assay’s measuring range is 0.4 to 8.0 mg/L, and it has a sensitivity limit of quantification of 0.23mg/L. On the AU systems, the cystatin C test is performed using an immunoturbidimetric method; on the Immage systems it is performed using a nephelometric method.

NanoString Technologies Inc, Seattle, has expanded its 3D Biology portfolio with the commercial launch of the nCounter PanCancer Profiles, seven new gene expression panels designed to interrogate a focused area of cancer biology including immuno-oncology. The panels are focused on adaptive immunity, cancer metabolism, intracellular signaling, cellular profiling, Wnt pathway, innate immunity, and DNA damage and repair. Each 192-gene panel includes 180 topic-specific probes and 12 universal housekeeping genes. Panels may be combined with nCounter protein expression modules to enable a deeper view of biology through simultaneous analysis of gene and protein expression in key areas of interest to cancer biologists, including immuno-oncology researchers. Panels may be customized with up to 24 additional gene expression targets defined by the user.
