New platform standardizes laboratory data into HL7 format, enabling bidirectional data transfer across participating laboratories for faster clinical trial operations.
LabConnect has launched LabConnector, a technology platform designed to standardize laboratory data exchange for clinical trials by converting diverse data formats into a unified HL7 standard.
The Johnson City, Tennessee-based central laboratory services provider says the platform addresses data integration challenges faced by IT teams and data analysts at sponsor organizations managing clinical trial laboratory data across multiple partners.
LabConnector enables bidirectional data transfer between LabConnect and its laboratory partners, allowing sponsors to receive results directly into their Laboratory Information Management Systems while supporting functions including test result retrieval, order creation with attached results, and cancellation processing.
“LabConnector represents a major step forward in how we integrate with our laboratory partners,” says Charles Castano, chief technology officer of LabConnect, in a release. “By bringing every lab into one unified data environment, we’re giving sponsors the speed, accuracy, and flexibility they need to make faster decisions and ultimately bring life-changing therapies to patients sooner.”
Addressing Digital Transformation Needs
The launch comes as clinical research organizations increasingly adopt unified data standards to improve interoperability and reduce study timelines. The shift toward standardized data formats like HL7 is being driven by evolving regulatory requirements and demand for real-time clinical data access.
LabConnector aims to reduce dependence on intermediary systems while improving data quality and processing speeds. The platform’s standardization approach allows sponsors to work with multiple laboratory partners through a single data interface rather than managing separate integration protocols for each provider.
The technology specifically targets analytically and logistically complex studies, including immuno-oncology, cell and gene therapies, and rare and orphan disease research, where LabConnect specializes.
Market Position
LabConnect positions itself as a provider of central laboratory services, flexible staffing, and scientific consulting, and data integration services. The company operates laboratories and provides market access for drug development companies conducting clinical trials.
The LabConnector platform extends the company’s existing technology infrastructure to address data management challenges that can slow clinical trial operations and decision-making processes.
