The company gains exclusive global rights to develop point-of-care lateral flow tests for prostate cancer, lung cancer, and animal diseases.

Wales-based Valley Diagnostics Ltd has signed licensing agreements with Aberystwyth University to commercialize diagnostic tests using patented biomarkers for four disease areas, including prostate cancer, lung cancer, bovine tuberculosis, and paratuberculosis.

The company gained exclusive global rights to develop point-of-care lateral flow tests that can identify human and animal disease biomarkers from urine samples. Valley Diagnostics says its biomarker fingerprint lateral flow approach offers up to 95% accuracy for disease diagnosis. The agreements target diseases where current testing methods face accuracy and cost challenges.

“We’re grateful to partner with Aberystwyth University to help bring our innovative solutions to those who need them most,” says Dave Taylor, chief executive officer of Valley Diagnostics, in a release. “The knowledge and understanding of the pioneering scientists in biomarker discovery at the university has been crucial to getting us to this point.”

Valley Diagnostics plans to begin production of the lateral flow test kits with a rollout scheduled for 2026. The company’s technology can identify multiple disease-causing biomarkers from a urine sample.

The licensing deal aims to address testing gaps in prostate cancer detection and bovine tuberculosis screening, where existing methods often involve lengthy turnaround times and high costs, according to a release from the company. For animal health applications, the tests target bovine tuberculosis and paratuberculosis, also known as Johne’s disease.

“As a partner of Valley Diagnostics, we’re excited to enter into this licensing agreement that will enable better and more accurate disease detection and diagnosis to be brought to market,” says Professor Luis Mur at Aberystwyth University, in a release.

The company is backed by an advisory board with experience in respiratory medicine, oncology, and metabolomics. Valley Diagnostics specializes in next-generation point-of-care lateral flow tests, focusing on early disease detection and diagnosis applications across human and veterinary medicine.
