The institute adopted the cloud-based Mosaic platform to support drug discovery, stem cell research, and translational studies.
The Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute has selected the Mosaic sample management platform from Cenevo to support its biomedical and translational research, replacing a home-grown legacy system.
The platform will support the institute’s work in stem cell research and drug discovery. According to a company release, the cloud-based system is designed to scale as needed and allows for integrations with new instruments and software. The transition is expected to reduce information technology operations and maintenance costs because onsite servers are no longer required.
“Our legacy system simply outgrew its usefulness,” says Hilarie Austin, lab manager at Sanford Burnham Prebys, in a release. “With Mosaic’s broad integrations and cloud-based operations and storage, we now have exactly what we need to support today’s experiments with plenty of room to grow into tomorrow.”
The platform integrates with more than 150 laboratory hardware devices and software platforms. Sanford Burnham Prebys is utilizing the technology for four specific platform integrations. The institute’s CDD Vault synchronizes registered substances with the platform, while the LVL Rack Scanner and BarTender printer communicate with the system directly. The Beckman Coulter Echo 655 integration allows the software to generate transfer lists that operators can then update based on the transfers that actually occurred.
The migration of historical sample data into the new platform allows the institute to use existing and new data for research in small molecules, stem cells, aging, immunity, and children’s diseases, according to the company. The research team is also using training modules from the Cenevo Academy to assist with the laboratory processes.
“Mosaic simplifies sample management so Sanford Burnham Prebys researchers can focus on discovery,” says Graham Lipscomb, senior vice president of customer services at Cenevo, in a release. “As their research gets ever more complex, they’ll be able to depend on Mosaic’s integration and cloud-based platform to handle anything they need.”
