QIAGEN NV announced the commercial launch of QIAsymphony Connect, an in vitro diagnostics (IVD)-compliant platform designed for automated clinical nucleic acid extraction.

Building on the existing QIAsymphony platform, which has more than 3,300 placements worldwide, the new system helps clinical laboratories standardize extraction across diverse assay workflows. The company has completed the Food and Drug Administration listing in the US and the EUDAMED listing in Europe for the platform.

“Clinical laboratories need automation solutions that combine proven extraction performance with the standardization, traceability and productivity needed for today’s molecular testing workflows,” says Nitin Sood, senior vice president and head of product portfolio & innovation at QIAGEN, in a release.

Workflow Automation and Traceability

The platform features integrated liquid handling, prefilled IVD reagent cartridges, and automated load checks to minimize variability and hands-on time. To ensure process safety, the system includes automated barcode reading for primary sample tubes and eluates, along with built-in audit trails and onboard process controls.

The system is designed for high-throughput performance, processing up to 96 samples in four independent batches. A bead collection and elution approach allows for sample input volumes ranging from a few microliters up to 10 mL, delivering concentrated DNA and RNA for sensitive downstream applications. This capability supports molecular testing in oncology, infectious disease diagnostics, and liquid biopsy, which requires detection of low-abundance molecular targets in blood.

Compatibility and Migration

QIAsymphony Connect maintains backward compatibility with current QIAsymphony reagent kits and consumables. This allows existing customers to migrate to the new platform while continuing to use established materials.

The system also introduces digital connectivity and workflow enhancements intended to simplify routine operations for laboratories implementing new molecular testing applications. According to the company, initial customer orders have already been received as the platform enters broader commercial availability.
