Vitamin D Assay

Measures true total 25-Hydroxy vitamin D

Diazyme Laboratories, Poway, Calif, has been given 510(k) clearance by the FDA to market its 25-Hydroxy vitamin D assay. The 25-Hydroxy vitamin D test is a homogenous assay that measures the true total 25-Hydroxy vitamin D (sum of both D3 and D2). The new assay introduces several enhancements, including a wide dynamic range with improved precision, while eliminating time-consuming washing steps and the error caused by matrix effects. It is fast and flexible. The test is user-friendly and can be used manually, or it can be easily adapted for use on a wide range of fully automated microtiter plate readers, making it suitable for use in labs of all sizes and testing needs.

Cation Column

Analysis of a variety of amines in complex sample matrices

Dionex Corp, Sunnyvale, Calif, has released the IonPac® CS19 cation-exchange column designed for gradient separation of polar and moderately hydrophobic amines plus the common inorganic cations. It is a high-capacity column allowing for the analysis of a variety of amines in complex sample matrices, including chemical process solutions, foods and beverages, and power industry samples. The column is available in 0.4- x 250-mm, 2- x 250-mm, and 4- x 250-mm formats. Key amines that can be separated using aqueous methanesulfonic acid gradients include alkanolamines, biogenic amines, methylamines, alkyl diamines, and polar amines. The CS19 column provides reproducible results. The capillary and microbore formats offer the advantage of less eluent consumption providing reduced operating costs.

Protein Purification Kits

For the rapid purification of soluble, GST-tagged proteins

G-Biosciences, St Louis, offers HOOK™ GST Protein Purification kits for the purification of protein from bacterial samples. The kits allow for the rapid extraction of soluble, GST-tagged protein. The bacteria are first lysed with supplied Bacterial PE LB™ and PE LB™-Lysozyme to release total soluble protein while maintaining the structure and activity of the protein. The GST-tagged protein is purified by affinity chromatography, and the resin is transferred to a convenient spin column where it is rapidly washed and the GST protein is eluted. The kits are available in a gravity flow format for yields of 10 mg/250 mL of culture and spin kits for rapid elution of tagged protein for ~1 mg/50 mL of culture.
