Key Scientific Products, Stamford, Tex, has introduced the Coli.ID test kit, which aids in the rapid identification of Escherichia coli from positive urine cultures. The kit may also be used as part of a scheme to help in identifying such microorganisms as 4-methylumbelliferyl-beta-D-glucuronide (MUG), purrolidonyl arylamidase (PYR), and Indole production from clinical isolates. Multiple samples may be run on a single disc, and reagents are included with each kit. The test requires a pure 24–48 hour culture of the organism on a nonfluorescing, tryptophan-containing medium such as tryptone soya agar or blood agar.
