SiO2 Medical Products, Auburn, Ala, has launched the Synergy tube, a proprietary blood collection tube designed to optimize recovery of nucleic acids and cancer tumor cells from the point of blood draw. The Synergy tube and proprietary stabilizer dramatically improve the quantity and quality of these components for genetic testing.
The Synergy tube has all of the characteristics of glass yet is unbreakable. With a larger draw volume and low hemolysis, cell-free DNA (cfDNA), cell-free RNA (cfRNA), cellular genomic DNA (gDNA), and RNA can be extracted from the same tube, allowing the user to pair results from the same sample. The Synergy tube is designed to address the need to protect patient samples during transportation to the genomic testing lab.

According to Christopher Weikart, PhD, chief scientist at SiO2 Medical Products, the company’s product has the ability to fundamentally change the future of the healthcare industry. “The risk of bodily injury and pathogen exposure using fragile glass, and the frustration of short draw volumes and sample contamination using permeable plastics, are a thing of the past,” he adds. The Synergy tube is for research use only.
