New software allows researchers to examine repeat expansions associated with up to 23 disease-related genetic regions in a single run.
Nabsys has released RepX, a repeat expansion analysis pipeline available through its Nabsys Navigator cloud platform. The software uses Electronic Genome Mapping (EGM) data collected on the OhmX platform to investigate disease-associated repeat expansions, offering the capacity to analyze up to 23 loci in a single run.
Repeat expansions are linked to numerous inherited disorders but have historically proven difficult for laboratories to characterize. EGM analyzes individual ultra-long DNA molecules without amplification or ligation, eliminating common preparation biases and allowing researchers to evaluate the distribution of expansion sizes and examine repeat instability within each allele.
“Repeat expansion research benefits from understanding not just expansion size, but how it varies within an allele,” says Barrett Bready, MD, founder and CEO of Nabsys, in a release. “RepX pairs those EGM single-molecule insights with the potential for low-cost, multi-locus analysis—advancing our goal of making single-molecule genomics accessible to every lab.”
Integration Across Genomic Data Sets
RepX operates on data generated using the standard OhmX VOLT Whole Genome Kit, meaning the same dataset can simultaneously support genome-wide structural variant and copy number variant analyses.
Within the Nabsys Navigator platform, the new pipeline joins SV-Discover for genome-wide structural variant analysis and SV-Verify for confirming structural variants identified by other technologies, backed by integrated visualization tools.
Demonstrations at ASHG 2026
Nabsys will demonstrate RepX and Nabsys Navigator at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) 2026 Annual Meeting in Montreal, Canada.
During the conference, the company will present five posters highlighting applications of EGM technology. The scheduled presentations include a study detailing CRISPR/Cas9 customization of EGM repeat expansion assays presented by Kasra Tabatabaei, PhD, and a Reviewers’ Choice poster examining CRISPR/Cas9 optimization presented by John Thompson, PhD.
The OhmX platform, Nabsys Navigator, and RepX are designated for research use only and are not for use in diagnostic procedures.
