The acquisition adds a saliva assay for periodontal pathogen detection, extending the CLIA-certified laboratory’s services to dental practices.
Real Diagnostics, a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory specializing in high-complexity molecular infectious disease and toxicology testing, has acquired SimplyTest, a provider of saliva-based diagnostic tests for oral health.
The acquisition incorporates SimplyTest’s flagship diagnostic assay, PERIO, into Real Diagnostics’ high-complexity laboratory testing menu, expanding the laboratory’s reach to dental practices.
The PERIO test uses a non-invasive swish-and-spit saliva sample to identify key periodontal pathogens. The molecular assay provides clinicians with organism-level data designed to guide personalized therapy and monitor patient periodontal health over time.

Broadening High-Complexity Molecular Services
Real Diagnostics currently offers high-complexity polymerase chain reaction assays across several clinical areas, including urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted infections, vaginosis, respiratory infections, and toxicology.
In addition to molecular diagnostics, the laboratory combines micro-lab capabilities with molecular testing to provide phenotypic antibiotic resistance analysis. This workflow offers healthcare providers insight into pathogen-specific antibiotic treatment options to support antimicrobial stewardship objectives and patient outcomes.
