The College of American Pathologists (CAP) will introduce more than 40 new products/programs for 2012 and feature CAP physician members’ as speakers in its booth at the 2011 AACC Annual Meeting, in Atlanta, July 26-28.

As part of the 2012 launch at AACC, the CAP will demonstrate digital scope technology, a major advancement in online imaging designed to deliver a user experience similar to real-life microscopy that will be used in some CAP Surveys. CAP Surveys allow laboratories to regularly evaluate performance and improve results accuracy. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) mandates that US laboratories enroll in a program, like CAP Surveys, to meet requirements for performing certain laboratory tests.

Also in 2012, new introductions will include the CAP Accreditation for Biorepositories program and a Quality Management Tool (QMT) for monitoring troponin measures. CAP developed the QMT in collaboration with the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC).

Also at AACC, CAP members will speak about various CAP Surveys, running the gamut of laboratory medicine disciplines—eg, chemistry, hematology and microbiology—and quality management tools. Speakers include Elizabeth A. Wagar, MD, FCAP, University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas; Alice L. Werner, MD, FCAP, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, Norfolk, Virginia; Teresa P. Darcy, MD, FCAP, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison, Wisconsin; and Richard J. Baltaro, MD, PhD, FCAP, Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska.
