SafetySpace

Filter tips for pipetting

Biohit, Neptune, NJ, has introduced new SafetySpace™ filter tips that provide improved accuracy and safety in pipetting. With more space between the sample and the filter than conventional filter tips, users do not need to worry about the sample touching the filter regardless of the pipetting technique or type of liquid being handled. The filter tips are also suitable for reverse pipetting as well as for multiple dispensing with electronic pipettes. They are ideal for any scientist, and they are particularly useful in molecular biology, microbiology, and cell culture applications, as well as radioactive work.

Mindray BC-3200

New instrument for CVA kit

Streck, Omaha, Neb, adds the Mindray BC-3200 instrument to its assayed Calibration Verification Assessment (CVA) kit. CVA is used to verify calibration, establish patient reportable range, and measure the linear performance of hematology instruments. The kit offers instrument-specific assay values and ranges for many three-part and five-part hematology instruments. The values provide immediate instrument verification and eliminate the need for the customer to perform any lengthy calculations. CVA is available in 3.0-mL cap-pierceable plastic vials. This product offers an open-vial stability of 5 days, which allows CVA to be rerun if an instrument problem is detected.

ABgene Diamond Ultra PCR Plate

Designed for high-throughput labs

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Epsom, UK, has launched its Thermo Scientific ABgene™ Diamond Ultra 384-well PCR plate for scientists working in high-throughput robotic applications. A warp-resistant polymer is used in the plate’s manufacture, reducing the likelihood of system jamming and ensuring consistent plate dimensions during thermal cycling. The polymer’s strength also helps maintain the integrity of the seal, reducing evaporation and ensuring consistent performance. Plates are manufactured to the highest standards in a clean room environment, eliminating the need for sterilization prior to use. Each batch is certified free from DNase, RNase, and genomic/human DNA.

PARADIGM Detection Cartridges

Plug-in cartridges execute a variety of assays

Beckman Coulter, Brea, Calif, introduces four detection cartridges for the PARADIGM Detection Platform, its modular plate reader, that add new capabilities for widely used fluorescence and luminescence applications. The AlphaScreen, GeneBLAzer, and MultiTox-Fluor cartridges provide assay-specific settings and protocols to reduce setup time. These products, along with a new filter-based Fluorescence Intensity cartridge, join a line of 14 previously released cartridges that can be exchanged in the PARADIGM Detection Platform in less than 5 minutes and that enable a range of cell and molecular biology assays. In addition, custom cartridges can be developed for researchers and vendors with specific assay requirements.

ResponseDX: Gastric

Gastric cancer test panel

Response Genetics, Los Angeles, now offers its ResponseDX: Gastric™ genetic test panel, a proprietary PCR-based diagnostic test. The tests quantitatively analyze three genes: excision repair cross-complementing factor 1, thymidylate synthase, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2. By analyzing the expression of genes that correlate with response to commonly used chemotherapy agents, physicians can better tailor treatment for their patients with gastric cancer and gastroesophageal junction cancer.
