Ductless fume hood
The new PURAIR 5 ductless fume hood from Air Science USA, Fort Myers, Fla, features a high level of operator protection where routine work is being carried out. The ductless design eliminates installation costs and allows the unit to be positioned over a sink or benchtop apparatus. Three models are available with a choice of 24-, 36-, or 48-inch widths. The units operate at low noise levels and do not exhaust expensive conditioned and/or heated air into the atmosphere. A face velocity of 100 fpm ensures containment of fumes and particulates for operator protection. An alarm alerts the operator when the airflow falls to an unacceptable level.

The stackable shakers offer run points and set points for temperature, speed, and time, displayed simultaneously for convenient run cycle monitoring; a built-in HEPA filter; and a fold-down door with an ergonomically designed handle that allows the shaker platform to slide out, enabling easy access for loading and unloading of samples. Safety is ensured by a flip-down handle/latch on the quick-release base, which prevents the shaker from running if the platform is not secure. All stacking hardware is included.

Steady shear and yield stress testing
The Merlin Viscometer from ATS RheoSystems, Bordentown, NJ, is a high-performance rotational viscometer capable of both steady shear and yield stress testing in a compact size. Designed to perform both routine rheological tests such as single-point viscosity checks for QC to complex rheological evaluation for R&D, the viscometer is ideal for investigating the mixing, stirring, and process-flow characteristics of fluid systems. The unit comes standard with built-in Peltier temperature control for all measuring systems. Cone and plate, parallel plate, and concentric cylinder measuring systems are included. The measuring systems employ quick-capture mounting technology. It has an Angular Velocity range from 0.01 to 200 rad/s, a Torque Range from 0.005 to 20 mNm, and a Temperature Range from 5°C to 85°C.
The Traceable® One-Shot™ single use conductivity standards from Control Co, Friendswood, Tex, can calibrate all conductivity meters and probes for accuracy. Calibration is made in the standards’ vial, and the container fits all probes. An extra large opening (1¾ inches diameter) and extra large, 3½ inches depth allow probe calibration to take place in the standards’ polyethylene container. Accuracy at 25°C is ±0.25 microsiemens/micromhos for 5, 10 microsiemen/micromho standards or ±0.25% for other standards, or the uncertainty shown on the certificate, whichever is greater. Each container is labeled for calibrating conductivity (microsiemens/micromhos), resistivity (ohms), and dissolved solids (parts per million). Each container is supplied with step-by-step calibration instructions, an individual temperature compensation chart, traceability information, and a Traceable Certificate. Each One-Shot contains 100 milliliters and is supplied in a pack of six.

Kinetic Systems Inc, Boston, introduces a new ultra-low-frequency Vibration-Isolation Workstation for lighter loads. Designated the 2800 Series LLHP, the new workstation is designed to meet the exacting vibration-isolation requirements of sensitive equipment weighing in the 100-pound range, with a maximum allowed weight of 200 pounds. The 2800 Series tabletop is 30 inches square, 2 inches thick, and can be constructed of lightweight aluminum extruded core or a variety of composite cores. Surfaces are available with or without mounting holes. The compact, ergonomic design incorporates automatic leveling and low natural frequencies (1.1 Hz along horizontal axis and 1.4 Hz along vertical axis). The workstation can achieve vertical isolation efficiency of 96% and horizontal isolation efficiency of 97% (at 10 Hz and above).
