With the final count of attendees and exhibitors complete, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) announces that its 2011 Annual Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo in Atlanta, Ga, July 24 to July 28, attracted more than 17,500 attendees. Although lower than the 2010 Annual Meeting in Anaheim, Calif, attendance was in line with the 2009 Chicago and previous years’ meetings. The Clinical Lab Expo attracted almost 700 exhibitors in over 2,000 booths surpassing Anaheim, itself a record-breaking year.

Anthony Killeen, PhD, Director of Clinical Labs at the University of Minnesota, and Chair of the 2011 Annual Meeting Organizing Committee commented, “Given economic issues facing the US and other countries, it is gratifying that the number of attendees for the meeting held up so well. It is a testament to the importance of the AACC meeting to those in the field of laboratory medicine and the quality of the program prepared by my colleagues on the organizing committee. It was also encouraging to see the increase in booths sales overall as well as in the number of companies exhibiting for the first time, and also an increased international presence at the Clinical Lab Expo.”
