Beckman Coulter Inc has expanded its Renal menu with the addition of Gentian* Cystatin C Immunoassay (CYSX), an assay for the quantitative determination of cystatin C in human serum and plasma. When used on Beckman Coulter Synchron® and UniCel® Clinical Systems, the Gentian Cystatin C Immunoassay is used in the diagnosis and treatment of renal disease.
Reagents and calibrators for the Gentian Cystatin C assay are liquid and ready to use, eliminating the need for mixing, hydrating or pre-diluting reagents before testing.
A number of studies report that cystatin C assays are sensitive and cystatin C is an early indicator of decreased renal function and further, may be a superior marker over creatinine in the estimation of Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), the overall index of kidney function.
In addition to the Cystatin C Immunoassay, Beckman Coulter’s Renal menu includes Albumin, BUN, Calcium ISE, Creatinine, Glucose, Microalbumin and Phosphorus.
